CD Day Parade 09 Interview.
It is 2 weeks away from CD Day Parade and the cadets
are hard practicing despite the hot mid-day sun. I sat down with
SGT Benjamin Yap Qi Long from Yu Hua Secondary School.
Benjamin has been in the Precision Drill Squad for more than 6 months,
inclusive of the training for NCDCC Day Parade or “Pioneer”
Batch
Benjamin shares with us the important qualities in learnt whilst
training in the Precision Drill Squad. Discipline is crucial; without
discipline, he believes that the PDS would not be able to catch
up with constant changes in routine and not be able to receive proper
and clear instructions from his instructors.
Sharpness is also one of the most important aspects of the precision
drill. Sharpness refers to the quick jerking motions so that the
moves executed those not seem sloppy. Without sharpness, the squad
will not appear as smart as it was meant to.
Another PDS cadet, LCP Nursafarah Sudin, a secondary 2 student from
Coral Secondary School, spends her free time reading novels and
surfing the internet. She also likes spending time with her family.
She shared with me that she likes to experience new stuff. Only
in PDS that she gets to learn on how to spin a flag. She had to
control the flag and spin it in the correct direction (clockwise
or anti-clockwise) and learn to throw it in a graceful manner so
that the flag can be seen whilst sailing through the air.
Alertness, ability to think fast, teamwork and co-ordination, never
giving up, having the motivation and determination to work hard
to be the best and not forgetting to have fun are important values
Nursafarah acquired from PDS that she would bring back to the unit.
Nursafarah would definitely like the opportunity to come back so
that she may learn new things and pass it down to her unit, Coral
Secondary School.
It is a certainly beautiful thing, these two cadets exuberating
passion and hard work. Here wishing them all the best.
